This half day course is aimed to refresh your basic concepts of the dyspnoeic patient. We will introduce you to new ideas on the pathophysiology, clinical signs, physical examination findings, radiographic and ultrasonographic changes and treatment options of the common thoracic complaints encountered in general practice.
We will focus specifically on the nursing and medical management of the acutely dyspnoeic patient, which will include the following:
Triage of the patient, rapid assessment, intravenous access techniques, methods of oxygen supplementation, thoracentesis, thoracic drain placement, pericardiocentesis and imaging techniques.
Demonstrations of commonly performed techniques by nurses, e.g. oxygen tube placement, will also be performed.
