As well as delving into the care requirements of some of the most common pet reptile species, we will cover practical aspects of nursing care in the vet clinic environment. The challenges of these patients will be explored, with detailed discussion and recommendations for anaesthesia, analgesia, surgical considerations, appropriate hospitalisation, history taking and clinical examination.
A 'top 10' of reptile clinical conditions will highlight just what can go wrong if captive husbandry and diet are sub optimal. This will allow you to advise reptile owners on how best to avoid health problems in their pets.
We will explore how their unique anatomy and physiology has adapted them perfectly to their natural environment. Understanding the natural history and biology of reptiles in their wild habitat is the key to providing them with successful conditions in the captive environment.
After this course, you will return to practice confident to nurse reptile patients effectively, as well as be able to teach owners (and your colleagues) more about this fascinating group of animals.
